AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER'S EARNINGS UP
American Electric Power Co., the Columbus, Ohio, parent of Appalachian
Power, said Monday its first-quarter earnings rose 0.5 percent to $145.6
million compared with $144.9 million in the corresponding period of 1990. The
gain was mainly the result of an increase in more profitable electricity sales
to residential and commercial customers, the company said. Per-share earnings
were 79 cents, up from 75 cents a year earlier.
AEP said operating revenues declined 3.6 percent to $1.25 billion compared
with $1.3 billion a year earlier, because of a decline in sales to wholesale
customers.
