STATE COLLEGE CUTS 20 EMPLOYEES

Faced with an anticipated $1.7 million reduction in funding for the 1991-92 school year, Christopher Newport College has cut 20 positions ranging from janitors to administrators.

President Anthony R. Santoro said Monday night he had met personally with all but four of the affected employees earlier in the day.

"We have concentrated all of our efforts on minimizing the effect of these cuts on our primary focus - the academic welfare of our students," said Santoro, who called Monday "a sad day" for the college. Each of the terminations is effective Aug. 15, giving the employees four months to find another job, he said.
