FOCUS ON MEANING, NOT FLAG'S PLACEMENT

IN RESPONSE to the letter "Another meaning lies beneath flag" (April 2): Having just returned from Operation Desert Shield/Storm, it was great to have the backing of the people back here in the states. It was grand to see so many American flags everywhere.

If you stop to think about it, it's not whether the flag is on a captured tank or a foreign car. It's the freedom that's important: the freedom to fly a flag or to say what you think.
