COAL-SALES DROP SPURS CUT IN WISE BUDGET

The Wise County Board of Supervisors is going to have to slice $3.2 million from its projected 1991-92 budget because of a projected drop in coal sales.

Coal provides the major industry in this part of Southwest Virginia and gets much of its revenue from a severance tax on coal mined in the county. A warm winter is one factor that has cut down on coal sales.
