11 MORE MILES OF NEW RIVER TRAIL OPEN SATURDAY

Friends of the New River Trail will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at 10 a.m. here to open 11 more miles of trail from Pulaski to Allisonia. The public is invited.

Twenty-six miles of hiking, biking and horseback-riding trail already are open in the southern part of New River Trail State Park.

Park officials, community residents and volunteers will take part in the ceremony, to be held on Virginia 658 across from Bryson's Contry Store.

Refreshments and trail hikes will follow. Trash bags will be available for those wanting to take part in an Earth Day cleanup along the trail.

Information is available by telephoning the New River Trail State Park office at 699-6778.
