MAN'S HIT-AND-RUN SENTENCE SUSPENDED

A 23-year-old Wytheville man has received a suspended sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident last August when his pickup truck collided with a motorcycle.

Michael Ray Hollars received a two-year suspended sentence Monday and was placed on probation for two years.

The motorcycle operator was Edward F. Jones, 39, a Wythe County body shop operator. He died after being taken to a hospital.

Hollars and two passengers in his truck drove away and were apprehended the following day near Rural Retreat. Hollars was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter, but a grand jury indicted him on hit-and-run.

The accident happened on U.S. 21. - Southwest bureau
