NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPGRADES RADIO TRANSMITTER

Q: The National Weather Service in Roanoke recently changed its radio frequency. It was 162.400. Can you tell me what the new one is? - R.M., Radford

A: On April 10, the National Weather Service in Roanoke completed relocation of its weather radio transmitter from Poor Mountain to Fort Lewis Mountain.

The broadcast, operating continuously, is now on a frequency of 162.475 megahertz. This change in frequency should bring improved reception to most of the projected listening area - generally a 40- to 50-mile radius from Roanoke, according to the weather service.
