A historians' panel from 1 to 3 p.m. will feature Conway Smith, author of "The Land that is Pulaski County"; Jean Speer, Appalachian studies director at Virginia Tech and author of "Appalachian Photographs of Earl Palmer"; Ed Jervey, historian from Radford University, and Parks Lanier, editor of "Poetics of Appalachian Space."
Nancy Ruth Patterson will appear at a meet-the-author program from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Patterson, director of CITY school in Roanoke, is the author of three novels for children. Her first, "The Christmas Cup," is in its third printing and is the American Library Association choice for a Notable Book in social studies. "The Shiniest Rock of All" is scheduled for publication this fall, and "A Simple Gift" is due out in 1992.
Clowns will perform from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by John Rutherford's rendition of "Jack Tales." Maynard Powell will provide story time for preschool and lower elementary school children from 7 to 8 p.m.
