Roanoke Electric Steel Corp., the Roanoke producer of speciality steel products, on Wednesday declared a quarterly cash dividend of 12 cents per share on its common stock payable May 24 to shareholders of record May 7.

Dominion Bankshares Corp. has maintained its quarterly dividend at 11 cents a share. That rate, originally adopted by the company's board in January, is half of the 22-cent dividend that had been paid since the fourth quarter of 1989.

The board said the new dividend will be paid June 10 to stockholders of record at the close of business May 10.

The Roanoke-based bank holding company reported Tuesday that it earned $5.5 million or 14 cents a share for the first quarter. Dominion's stock rose 13 cents a share Wednesday to $9.38 a share.
