NATURAL BRIDGE UPENDS GLENVAR

Mike Bradley struck out nine, walked two and gave up seven hits in leading host Natural Bridge to a 9-4 non-district baseball victory over previously unbeaten Glenvar on Wednesday.

Joe Wood of Natural Bridge (2-5) went 2-for-4 with a double, scored twice and had one RBI, and Jason Knick and Joey Carter each singled in two runs.

Glenvar is 7-1.

In other baseball:

As a pitcher, Brian Shotwell struck out seven and issued no walks; as a batter, he was 3-for-5 with two RBI as visiting Lexington (4-2 overall, 1-0 district) beat James River 13-6 in a Pioneer District game at Buchanan.

At Daleville, Timmy Meador hit two home runs as Lord Botetourt (3-2) beat visiting Radford (4-2-1) 6-3 in a non-district game.

\ SOFTBALL: At Buena Vista, Stephanie Martin struck out eight and was one out from a no-hitter as Glenvar humbled host Parry McCluer 31-0 in a Pioneer District game.

Kim Hall's two-out single in the fifth - and final inning - ended Martin's no-hitter.

William Fleming's Tammy Litton hit two home runs, but it wasn't enough as Salem defeated the visiting Colonels 11-4 in a non-district game. Katherine Minnahan had two hits and two RBI and Kelly Robinson had a home run for the Spartans (6-1). Fleming is 2-4.

Three Patrick Henry errors led to a six-run fourth inning for visiting Floyd County (3-6), which won 9-8.

At Alleghany, Marcee Hufton pitched a seven-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and William Byrd defeated Alleghany 16-4. Hufton also had two singles for the Terriers.

\ BOYS' SOCCER: Ryan Cook and Tres Moore scored as North Cross (10-1-1, 4-0) defeated Roanoke Catholic 2-1 in a Virginia Independent Conference game at Wasena Park. Kevin Marlar scored for Roanoke Catholic (3-3, 1-1).

\ BOYS' TRACK: At Patrick Henry, Mike Ferguson won the high jump, long jump, 120-yard hurdles and 330-yard hurdles to lead the Patriots to 83-58 Roanoke Valley District victory over Pulaski County. D.J. Patterson won the 100 and 220-yard dash for Pulaski County.

At Cave Spring, Tikki Barber won the triple jump and was on two winning relay teams as Cave Spring took an 87-44 Roanoke Valley District victory over Franklin County. Jeff Willoughby won the 100 and 200 dashes and also was on the Knights' winning 400 relay team. Kenny Wade of Franklin County won the long jump and the high jump.

\ GIRLS' TRACK: Kim Preston won the 100- and 200-meter dashes to lead Cave Spring to a 76-54 Roanoke Valley District victory over visiting Franklin County.

Paced by Felicia Godley's three individual victories, Patrick Henry won every event and raced past visiting Pulaski County 109-23 in a Roanoke Valley District meet. Godley won the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Regina Johnson won the shot put and discus and Amy Speas the mile and two-mile runs for the Colonels.
