Michael Landon used some of the thousands of letters from supporters to pick a doctor and a course of treatment for his inoperable cancer, his spokesman says.

Treatment for Landon's liver and pancreatic cancer will combine small doses of chemotherapy with a strict diet, said the spokesman, Harry Flynn.

Landon, 54, who starred in television's "Highway to Heaven," "Little House on the Prairie" and "Bonanza," returned to his Malibu home from New York after choosing a physician.

"As terrifying as it is, and there are a lot of odds against him, he's determined to beat it," Flynn said.

Lynn Anderson's mother says the country singer's two children would be best served by continuing to live with their father rather than suffer another disruption in their lives.

Liz Anderson testified Tuesday in the Nashville Circuit Court custody case between Lynn Anderson and ex-husband Harold Stream III that she would not oppose giving primary custody to the father so long as her daughter can keep substantial visitation rights.

Previously, the singer's parents, who live in California, had offered to care for the children as a neutral solution in the custody dispute.

"We just wanted to end all of this war," Liz Anderson said. "It's affecting the children badly."

Adam Rich was arrested on investigation of shoplifting one day after he was charged with breaking into a pharmacy, police said.

Rich, 22, who as a child played Nicholas, the youngest child on "Eight is Enough," was arrested Tuesday at a Bullock's store in suburban Northridge, 25 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Security guards said they found $29.75 worth of socks and sunglasses on Rich and he had no receipt, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Paul Haberman.
