Dr. Jean-Claude Pierre Hill of Elberon, Va., was ordered held without bail for trial on murder and other charges.
At the request of his attorney, Hill, 29, will undergo a psychiatric examination. His arraignment was set for May 8.
"The doctor has very limited memory of what happened," Hill's attorney, Daniel-Paul Alva, said. `His demeanor is cool, calm and detached, sometimes alarmingly so, which is why I've asked for a psychiatric examination."
Hill is accused of fatally shooting Peter Foy, 48, of Tabernacle, N.J., in the head and wounding two other men as they walked back to their insurance company office following a birthday party for Foy on April 8.
Dan Gallagher, 34, who was in Philadelphia on a business trip from Chicago, was a witness to the shootings and identified Hill as the gunman.
"After he shot he turned around and walked very calmly to his car," Gallagher testified.
Hill also was identified by Police Officer Mark Perry, who said he was walking to his car when he heard two loud bangs.
"People were running toward me and I told them to get down as two more shots were fired," Perry testified. "I saw the defendant walking quickly but very calmly to his car, compared to all the chaos around me."
