As of Wednesday morning, the male dancers were booked to perform at the LancerLot.
But by noon Wednesday, Brabham had decided to cancel the show, citing hassles with the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Now the on-again, off-again show is on. Again.
Brabham leased the LancerLot to Valley Productions of Waynesboro. Valley Productions, in turn, hired the L.A. Calendar Men.
Terry Underwood, a promoter for Valley Productions, said he and Brabham discussed the show, and their signed contract, and decided to forge ahead.
"It's going to have to go on," Brabham said this morning. "I was going to cancel it, until I found out we were going to have our butts sued."
"They've already been booked, so they've got to be paid either way," Underwood said.
The ABC board frowns on scantily clad dancers performing where alcohol is sold. The commission says it will send an undercover agent to watch the show, to see if ABC rules on lewdness are violated.
Brabham could face a fine, a suspension or a revocation of his liquor license, even though he has vowed not to sell beer, wine or mixed drinks at the event.
Underwood said he looked into the possibility of having the dancers perform in a tent outside the LancerLot as a way to get around the rules discouraging dancers in places where alcohol is sold, but he decided that would have been too costly. Underwood said he also inquired Wednesday into moving the show to the Franklin County Speedway.
Brabham and representatives of the L.A. Calendar Men plan to meet before the show Friday to discuss pertinent laws.
