\ THE REV. DR. CHERYL DUKE, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church for the past year, has resigned effective immediately. Duke said she will seek a call as pastor of a small church in the Richmond area where her husband is employed.
\ AN INTERIM RECTOR, the Rev. A. Murray Goodwin, has begun his work at St. John's Episcopal Church. A former institutional chaplain, he has come from Delaware and will serve until a replacement is found for the Rev. Clay Turner, who left the staff six months ago.
Today at 5 p.m., the church will dedicate a new apartment building it owns at 112 Elm Ave. S.W. The building houses adults who are supervised by Mental Health Services until they are self-supporting. The church has supported the outreach ministry known as the Community Living Club for several years.
\ A COMMUNITY DINNER AND YOUTH PROGRAM, free to residents of the West End neighborhood, is scheduled May 5 at 5 p.m. at West End United Methodist Church, Campbell Avenue at 13th Street Southwest. The dinner will be potluck style.
\ READING VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL CLUES, a communications technique, will be taught at a workshop scheduled May 18 from 1-5 p.m. at Valley Community Church/Divine Science, 5000 Carriage Drive S.W. The program, which costs $35, will be led by Stephen Markham, associate professor of management at Virginia Tech. Call 774-2704 before Monday for more information.
\ JOANI TABOR, a Roanoker who formerly performed as a gospel singer in Tennessee, will address the Day Chapter of Women's Aglow Wednesday.
