Venson Oliphant, Sr., founder of Star City Steam Cleaners Inc. and former Industrial Arts teacher in the Roanoke City schools, passed away at his home on Saturday. Funeral mass will be held at St. Gerard's Catholic Church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd Stephenson officiating and burial in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Stephenson followed by memorial services by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the Altruist Club. The family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.
