BATH COACH POSTS 100TH CAREER WIN

Bath County presented coach Richard McElwee with a memorable 100th career victory by swamping Highland County 32-2 in a Pioneer District baseball game Thursday at Hot Springs.

The Chargers (7-1) scored nine runs in the first inning and 10 in the second by sending 26 to bat.

Scott Carpenter had two home runs and six runs batted in, and Keswick Phillips slugged a homer and drove in four runs. Highland County (0-5), in its first year of baseball, committed 19 errors.

McElwee is 100-44-1 in eight seasons at Bath County.

\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Rocky Mount, Bobby Warnick scored both goals as Cave Spring nipped Franklin County 2-1 in a Roanoke Valley District game. Steve Reynolds' late goal ruined a shutout bid by Knights goalie Lance Brewer.

Cave Spring is 3-0 in the RVD, 4-0 overall. Franklin County fell to 4-2-2, 1-1-2.

Joel Allen had two goals and an assist to lead Liberty (1-6) to a 3-2 victory over Amherst (0-6) in a Seminole District game.

At Dublin, J.P. Wilson scored three goals to fuel Patrick Henry (2-2-1) to a 5-2 Roanoke Valley District victory over Pulaski County (1-3-3).

\ GIRLS' SOCCER: At Martinsville, Lisa Beightol socred four goals as Cave Spring (6-1-1) diwbed nartubsvukke 5-2 in a non-district game.

At North Cross, Patrick Henry's Liz Wedemeyer and Macye Kinsey scored the only goals as the Patriots blanked the Raiders 2-0. Patrick Henry (6-0-1) held a 31-2 advantage on shots, but Raissa Remandaban had 14 saves for the Raiders (3-5).
