The Redskins, unhappy in recent years that the bulk of their divisional games were played at the start of the season, have had that situation alleviated. In fact, they will finish the season with 4 p.m. games against two NFC East foes, the New York Giants and Philadelphia.
In addition to eight NFC East games, Washington has conference cross-over dates against the AFC Central teams - at Cincinnati and Pittsburgh and at home against Cleveland and Houston.
The Redskins play four prime-time games, including the Sept. 1 season opener against Detroit at RFK Stadium, televised by cable's TNT, and the following week, a Monday night date on ABC at Dallas. Washington's other night games are Monday, Sept. 30 against Philadelphia at RFK and Sunday, Oct. 27, against the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J.
The NFL again will use a 17-week format for its 16-game season. The NFC East has Oct. 20 as its open date.
The Redskins' four-game preseason schedule includes only one RFK Stadium date, Aug. 16 against Cleveland.
