WSLS HIRES WEEKEND REPLACEMENT FOR PUMO

Pat Frizzell, a Fairfax County native and former Bluefield, W.Va., sportscaster, has been hired as weekend sports anchor and reporter by Roanoke's WSLS (Channel 10).

WSLS news director Bill Foy said Frizzell, 27, is moving from WHOA in Montgomery, Ala., where he has been the weekend anchor since September. Before his work in Montgomery, Frizzell spent three years at WVVA in Bluefield, W.Va.

Frizzell replaces Matt Pumo, who left on-air work at WSLS to go into sales at WJPR (Channels 21/27).

Frizzell, 27, is single and an Oklahoma graduate. He begins work at WSLS on May 13. Foy said Scott Rivers, who has filled in as weekend sports anchor, will remain at WSLS and continue to work with sports director Greg Roberts and Frizzell as reporter and videographer.
