DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS HIT 2 COUNTIES

Drive-by shootings occurred in Greene and Augusta counties Friday, a week after a rash of similar incidents in Albemarle County. No one has been hurt.

Three shots were fired near three children waiting for a school bus about 7:40 a.m., said Cpl. D.L. Conley of the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

The shots apparently were fired randomly and did not appear to have been aimed at the children, he said. Some shotgun pellets struck an unoccupied camper about 50 feet from the children.

Conley said the gunman appeared to be in his 50s and had a full gray beard. The man was driving a small, white pickup along U.S. 33 and was last seen heading east in Stanardsville.

In Augusta County, Sheriff Glenn Lloyd said someone shot at three vehicles on U.S. 340 north of Waynesboro between 6:30 and 7 a.m.

The sheriff said he had no description of the vehicle from which the shots were fired.
