PEHLKE LEADS VIRGINIA TO WIN OVER HOFSTRA

Sophomore attackman Kevin Pehlke broke the school record for goals in a season Saturday as No. 4-ranked Virginia defeated Hofstra 18-10 in college lacrosse.

Pehlke had five goals for the game, giving him 39 after 11 games. The old record of 37 was set by Chase Monroe in 14 games in 1988.

Hofstra (4-5) cut a 5-1 deficit to 8-6 at the half, but the visiting Cavaliers (9-2) scored five straight goals to start the second half in what was a homecoming for several UVa players from the Long Island area.

Senior midfielder Andy Kraus, from nearby Garden City, N.Y., had three goals and two assists. Sophomore attackman Rob Falk, also from Garden City, had two goals and three assists.

Virginia plays Maryland at 6 p.m. Friday in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Durham, N.C.
