RAIL CONFLICT IS PATHETIC, SHAMEFUL

PATHETIC and shameful. Those are the only words that describe the rail worker/management conflict. These two parties were willing to jeopardize the economic security of this country in order to bring Congress in to settle the dispute - much like a mother breaking up a fight between her twins.

I am disgusted by the lack of effort the railroad's management demonstrated in keeping its employees working and a major component of this nation's infrastructure operating. I am equally dismayed by the lack of concern the unions exhibited in keeping this country functioning. There is no need to bring the entire country to its knees in order to make a point.

There's no wonder why America is taking so long to return to economic greatness - we can't trust the players on our own team. PATRICK B. MORIN ROANOKE
