TAYLOR FIRST U.S. FINISHER IN MARATHON

Steve Taylor of Fincastle was the first American male to cross the finish line in the World Cup Marathon on Sunday in London.

Taylor finished 42nd overall, with a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 56 seconds. Yakov Tolstikov of the Soviet Union was the overall winner, covering the 26.2-mile course in an unofficial 2:09.17.

Portugal's Rosa Mota added to her list of titles by winning the women's race in 2:26.14. Francie Larrieu Smith was the first American woman to finish in 2:27.35. - Staff, Associated Press reports
