GATORS GIRL SWIMMERS PLACE 6TH IN NATIONALS

The Roanoke Valley Gators girls finished sixth and the team was 13th overall in the 1991 Spring YMCA National Swimming Championships on Sunday.

Meredith Hale missed the Olympic Trials cut by one-tenth of a second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 56.86 seconds. She was third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.93.

The 400 medley relay team, made up of Hale, Sarah Leonard, Brooke Adams and Shannon Goff, placed first in 3:54.14. In other relays, the 200 freestyle team was sixth, the 800 freestyle team was 13th and the 400 freestyle team was sixth.

Jamie Fellows led the boys' finishers with a seventh in the 200 butterfly and an eighth in the 400 individual medley.
