Ted Turner, named 1991 Man of the Year by Time magazine, was chosen over President Boris Yeltsin of Russia, Norman Schwarzkopf, President Bush, Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney and President Saddam Hussein of Iraq.Jim Kelly, an assistant managing editor of Time, said Turner was chosen because of his influence in making his Cable News Network the only global television network to cover the Persian Gulf War and the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
Turner, 53, is Time's 65th Man of the Year.
\ Henry Kissinger's attempt at weather forecasting was one of television's low points in 1991, says TV Guide.
The former secretary of state had trouble gesturing and talking at the same time during a guest stint on "CBS This Morning," the magazine said.
The magazine also jeered "Late Night" host David Letterman for sulking when he was not chosen to replace Johnny Carson on NBC's "Tonight Show."
\ Actor Phill Lewis said he remembers nothing about the fatal car accident in which he was involved early Saturday, or where he was for nearly 10 hours leading up to it, his lawyer said Monday.
"He truly, truly has had a memory loss," said Rockville lawyer Barry Helfand, who said he spent an hour Sunday questioning Lewis, 23, who appeared in "City Slickers" and starred in the network television show "Teech."
Police said a car driven by Lewis crossed the center line and collided head-on with another car at about 1 a.m. in Potomac, Md. The driver of the other car, Isabel Duarte, 21, was pronounced dead at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md.
A police officer investigating the accident said police believe alcohol contributed to the accident. He said officers at the scene said Lewis appeared to have been drinking.
