YOUR CHICKEN RECIPE MAY BE A PRIZE WINNER
Cooks who think they have a humdinger of a chicken recipe have exactly one month to beat the deadline of the Delmarva Chicken Cooking Contest.The grand prize package includes a Caribbean vacation for two, $1,000 and a selection of kitchen appliances and spices. Second and third place winners will share prizes valued at more than $3,000.
The contest is open to residents of 12 eastern states - Virginia to Maine - and the District of Columbia. Two finalists from each eligible state will be chosen to participate in an expenses-paid weekend at the cook-off finals June 5-7 in Salisbury, Md.
Recipes must be original. Broiler-fryer chicken, whole or any combination of parts, is the only required ingredient. Recipes should make four to eight servings and total preparation time cannot exceed three hours. Judging will be based on appeal, taste, appearance and ease of preparation.
Official contest entry forms, which spell out the rules, can be requested by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Delmarva Chicken Cooking Contest, Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc., R.D. 2 Box 47, Georgetown, Del. 19947-9622. But remember: Entries must be received at contest headquarters by Feb. 1.
\ The Entree to Thailand Recipe Contest is seeking main dish recipes that feature Bays English muffins. The winner will receive a trip for two to Thailand that includes a week of classes at the Oriental Hotel's cooking school in Bangkok.
There'll be prizes for second through sixth places, too, and 30 runners-up. Judging will be based on taste, appearance, imagination, practicality, appropriateness for an English muffin and fit with the entree theme.
The entry deadline is March 31. Submit original recipes on 8 1/2x11-inch paper with your name, address and daytime telephone number plus one top label from a package of Bays English muffins. Mail to Bays English Muffins, P.O. Box 450, Chicago, Ill. 60690-0450.
\ Creative recipes with grits are eligible for Martha White's World Grits Festival Recipe Contest.
Original recipes - main dishes, side dishes or desserts - must use at least 3/4 cup of uncooked or three cups of cooked Jim Dandy grits. Judging will be based on taste, originality, appearance, ease of preparation and appropriate use of product.
The grand prize is $1,000; $500 will be given to first place winners in each contest category.

Recipe categories are indoor, outdoor barbecue and microwave. A finalist from each state will be chosen in the indoor category, with finalists in the outdoor and microwave divisions chosen on a regional basis. They will compete in the cook-off Sept. 17-19 in Sacramento, Calif.
Entries must be postmarked by March 1 and will be judged on taste, ease of preparation, appeal and appearance.
