LECTURES AT HOLLINS TO FOCUS ON 1840S
In observance of the college's sesquicentennial, the May Camp Walker Winter Seminars at Hollins College will feature discussions of four aspects of the 1840s.The topics are:
Jan. 8 - "Mr. deTocqueville Visits America," by William Nye, associate professor of sociology. A tribute to the Walker family will precede the lecture.
Jan. 15 - "Ms. Stanton Holds a Convention," by Elizabeth Keyser, assistant professor of English.
Jan. 22 - "Ms. Sand Writes a Novel," by alumnae Mary C. Flinn, executive director of the New Virginia Review.
Jan. 29 - "Mr. Cocke Founds a College," by Jake Wheeler, professor of political science, and alumnae Evelyn Swensson.
The lectures are free and will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Hollins Theatre.
Participants may purchase lunch for $4.50 in the Moody Center and join speakers for informal discussions following each seminar.
