SMITH, JAMES E.
James Elzy Smith, Sr., 63, died Friday in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born in Rockbridge County on May 18, 1928, a son of the late Asby and Sally Higgins Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Slough Smith. He was a veteran of the Korean war and a retired plumber. He is survived by one daughter, Janet S. Patterson, Buena Vista; one son, James E. Smith, Jr., Lexington; two sisters, Myrtle Vest and Lola S. Higgins both of Lexington; three brothers, William T. Smith, Waynesboro; Earl Smith, Buena Vista; Estell Smith, Troutville; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 6 at Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Lomax Funeral Home.
