RICE, EVERETT S.

Everett Strouse Rice, died at the Richfield Nursing Center of Salem on January 2, 1992. He was born September 7, 1896 and was the son of the late Lily Strouse and Joseph Morrison Rice, of Salem. He was reared in the Rice-Powell house and educated at the University of Virginia. He previously resided in Arlington, Va. and upon retirement from government service in 1969, he returned to Salem. He was a former Fellow of the National Photographic Society of Washington, D.C. having served as council on the Board of Trustees. He was a former elder of the Farlington Presbyterian Church in Arlington, Va.; a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge #23 A.F.&A.M. of Salem and the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry, S.J. of Roanoke, Va.; a member of Salem Presbyterian Church and the Salem Historic Society. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Casell Rice. He is survived by three nieces, Lellen Rice Dawson, Salem; Emily Ann Rice Marsteller, Roanoke; Lucy Darden Rice; two nephews, Everett Strouse Rice and Joseph Morrison Rice; a sister-in-law, Louise Darden Rice, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a number of great-nieces and nephews. Masonic graveside rites will be held Monday, January 6, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. at East Hill Cemetery, Salem with Dr. Wilfred B. Webb, Jr. officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church or the Salem Historic Society. Funeral arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
