HOOD LEADS ALTAVISTA PAST STAUNTON RIVER
Altavista had three players with 20 or more points in notching an 87-70 boys' basketball victory against fellow Seminole District member Staunton River on Friday night.Troy Hood led the way for Altavista (7-0 overall, 7-0 district) with 28 points. He was supported by Sherman Pannell and Mark Johnson, each with 20.
Staunton River (5-2, 5-2) trailed 41-30 at halftime and couldn't catch up. Mike Moon led the Golden Eagles with 20 points. Eric Flood chipped in 16 points and freshman Corny Foxx added 14 off the bench. \

RUSTBURG - Liberty missed three 3-point shot attempts to tie the score in the final seconds and fell to Rustburg in a Seminole District game.
The Devils led 25-20 at halftime and held the Minutemen scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter.
Ian Lacks scored 13 points and Brian McCrickard 12 for Rustburg (2-5, 2-5). Chris Dean led Liberty (2-6, 2-6) with 12 points and Scott Martin added 10.

FOREST - Ryan Gilleland scored nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers broke open a tight game and buried the Generals in the Seminole District.
Jefferson Forest (4-3, 4-3) outscored the visitors 26-9 in the final eight minutes to break open what had been a two-point game.
Jason Callahan paced William Campbell with 20 points. \
Floyd County 78
Narrows 61
FLOYD - Fred Via had five 3-pointers and a game-high 30 points as the Buffaloes sailed past the Green Wave in a Mountain Empire District matchup.
Floyd (5-1, 3-1) led by three at halftime and pulled away by outscoring Narrows (1-2, 1-2) 35-21 in the second half.
Point guard Travis Crawford added three 3-pointers and 18 points for Floyd, and Mike Hylton chipped in with 13.
Brian Evans had 15 points, Chad Fleeman 13 and Kelly Lowe 11 for Narrows.

INDEPENDENCE - Grayson made 17 of 25 shots during the second and third quarters and drilled the Spartans in a Mountain Empire District game.
The Blue Devils (4-3, 3-1) outscored Giles 43-23 in the middle quarters. Bonner Satterwhite made five of six shots from the floor and seven of eight from the free-throw line to lead Grayson County with 17 points.
Wilbert Campbell added 14, Devin Floyd 13 and Mitch Hawks 10.
Brent Rampey scored 10 points to lead Giles (0-4, 0-4). \
Gateway Christian 67

BLACKSBURG - Gateway Christian outscored Mercer Christian of Princeton, W.Va., 24-10 in the third quarter to break a halftime tie and pull away for the win.
Senior guard Tim Henderson scored 30 points for the Crusaders (4-3), and David Arthur and Sam Moore combined for 24 points and 25 rebounds.
The win was Gateway's first against Mercer (3-9) in three years. \
Auburn 70
Rocky Gap 55
ROCKY GAP - Brian Sale scored a game-high 28 points, and Auburn took advantage of poor free-throw shooting from Rocky Gap to get a Mountain Empire District victory.
Auburn (5-1, 4-0) led 27-26 at the half, in part because of 8-of-20 free-throw shooting by Rocky Gap (3-2, 2-2) in the first half. Rocky Gap missed six one-and-one opportunities.
Todd Collins scored 12 for Auburn. Kyle Gibson and Clay Saunders led four players in double-figure scoring for Rocky Gap with 11 each. \
Fort Chiswell 92

The Pioneers weren't shy about taking 3-pointers and bombed their way to their sixth consecutive victory by downing Shawsville in a Mountain Empire District game.
Brian Lampkins scored 31 points and led Fort Chiswell's long-range barrage with five 3-pointers. The Pioneers (6-0, 4-0) were 10-of-29 from long distance.
With the score 12-12 after a quarter, Fort Chiswell used five 3-pointers to spark a 26-13 run. Lampkins made four.
Shawsville (0-4, 0-4) pulled to seven points in the third quarter, but the Shawnees made three consecutive turnovers and the Pioneers drained 3-pointers after each one to push the lead back up.
Doug Mabry added 20 points for Fort Chiswell. Kenny Dow paced Shawsville with a game-high 34. \
