CAVE SPRING GIRLS AT 7-0

Cave Spring built a 21-point halftime lead and cruised to a 77-51 non-district girls' basketball victory against George Washington of Danville on Friday night.

Kim Stewart led Cave Spring (7-0) with 13 points and six assists. The Knights made 56 percent (34 of 61) of their field-goal attempts.

Katrina King led visiting GW-Danville (5-3) with 17 points and Dionne Smith had 12.

Every player on Cave Spring's roster scored. Amy Athey had 12 and Lisa Hodges 10. \

Marqueeta Randolph poured in 20 points and Fleming got past E.C. Glass in overtime.

Tonya Kabia added 12 and Keisha Harrington 10 for the Colonels (6-2), and all three players made key free throws late in regulation and in overtime.

The Hilltoppers took a 14-3 first-quarter lead, but Fleming shut out E.C. Glass 12-0 in the second quarter and led 15-14 at the break.

The Colonels went on top by 10 after three quarters, but E.C. Glass rallied to force an extra period. William Fleming outscored the Hilltoppers 10-2 in overtime.

Melanie Paris had a game-high 25 points for E.C. Glass. \

E.C. Glass held William Fleming to 36 percent shooting (19-of-53) and avenged a season-opening loss to the Colonels.

William Fleming (4-2), playing its first game since Dec. 20, led by five points after one quarter but was outscored by 17 over the next two quarters.

James Jones had 21 points and six blocked shots for the Hilltoppers (3-6), and Tshombe Hubbard added 16.

Reggie Reynolds led William Fleming with 12 points and Derrick Hines had 10. \

HOT SPRINGS - Todd Jenkins scored seven consecutive points to single-handedly repel a late Knights rally and lift the Chargers to the Pioneer District win.

The loss was James River's first in the league this season and only their third to Bath County in coach John Shotwell's 29 years of coaching. James River is 4-3, 4-1 in the league. Bath County is 5-2, 4-1.

The Chargers, who led 21-7 after the first quarter, saw the Knights trim the margin to 48-47 with 3 1/2 minutes left. But Jenkins made three straight shots, including a 3-pointer, to ice the Bath win.

Jenkins, who was 4-of-6 from 3-point range, led Bath County with a career-high 21 points. Craig Phillips added 13.

Troy Thompson paced James River with 20. \
