GENERALS WIN 2ND STRAIGHT
Paul Baker and Bryan Brading made two free throws apiece in the final minute Saturday as Washington and Lee held off Colorado College 83-78 to win the Washington and Lee Invitational basketball tournament.After six straight losses, the Generals (3-6) won their second in a row and stopped a nine-game winning streak by the Tigers (10-2).
Washington and Lee led 53-36 with 15 minutes left before Colorado College cut it to 79-78 with one minute remaining.
Mark Melton made nine of 10 shots and led Washington and Lee with a career-high 20 points. After shooting 52 percent in their first-round win over Bowdoin on Friday, the Generals made 55 percent (28-of-51) against the Tigers.
Bryan Watkins added 18 points and Baker added 12 for the Generals. Watkins was chosen the tournament's most valuable player.
Rick Moore had a game-high 28 points for Colorado College, which made 12 of 22 3-point attempts but was outscored 25-8 at the free-throw line.
In the third-place game, Scott d'Entremont scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Gettysburg defeated Bowdoin 68-63. \
