With five seconds left, Corey Stoakley made his only basket, sending the game to overtime.
The Maroons scored the first basket of overtime, but the Captains got the last 10 points and the victory.
"It's our worst performance of the season," said Roanoke coach Page Moir. "We just didn't play well from the break. With 14 days off, we just didn't have our timing down offensively. Nothing was going right for us early."
James Boykins did most of the damage for Christopher Newport by scoring 24 points to go with 15 rebounds. Steve Artis had 20 points and nine assists for the Captains.
