WHITE HOUSE WANTS ART FROM DISABLED STUDENTS
A national "Call for Art" program is underway to encourage students with disabilities to create tributes to the 200th anniversary of the White House.First lady Barbara Bush issued the first invitation for entries to the 200th Anniversary Art Exhibition sponsored by Very Special Arts and the White House Historical Association.
Artwork depicting "Life in the White House" may be submitted by students with disabilities in upper-elementary, middle and junior high schools, special-education student and students taking part in Very Special Arts programs.
A national jury in Washington, D.C., will choose a work of art from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands - for a grand total of 56 works. Artists of the selected works will be invited to Washington next October, around the 200th birthday date, for the exhibition's opening.
