ROANOKE ROMPS 100-61 IN TOURNEY
Led by Hillary Scott's 12 points, 15 players scored as Roanoke College rolled by New York Maritime 100-61 in the third-place game of the Catholic New Year Invitational basketball tournament on Sunday at Catholic University.Roanoke (5-4) limited New York Maritime (5-4) to 28.3 percent shooting (17-of-60), and the Maroons held a 57-37 rebounding advantage.
Kevin Martin and Mike Murphy were the only other Maroons in double-figure scoring with 10 points each. Scott and Martin also had six assists.
Roanoke led 60-34 at the half.
In the championship game, James Boykins hit a layup as time expired to give Christopher Newport to a 61-60 victory over Catholic.
The Captains (7-6) held Catholic (7-4) scoreless in the final three minutes.
Boykins scored 20 points for Christopher Newport. \
