N.C. COUPLE CLAIM JACKPOT

A Harrellsville, N.C., couple on Monday claimed Saturday's $10.5 million Virginia Lotto jackpot.

Michael and Linda Van Loton, both 44, received their first payment of $396,727 after taxes during a visit to lottery headquarters in Richmond.

Using family birth months and ages, Linda Van Loton selected the winning combination of 11, 12, 16, 22, 28, 42.

Van Loton purchased the winning ticket late Friday night at a 7-Eleven store in Franklin, a town in Southside Virginia.

The store is across the street from the Union Camp Paper mill in Franklin, where Van Loton works as an assistant operator in the bleach plant.

Linda Van Loton, a bookkeeper for more than 25 years at the Earley & Winborne trucking company in Harrellsville, told lottery officials that she plans to continue working. Van Loton said he may take early retirement.

In addition to the check they received Monday, the Van Lotons will receive 19 annual payments of $399,760 after taxes. The state Lottery is required to deduct 20 percent for federal taxes and 4 percent for state taxes.
