BEAR-STALKING IS APPALLING
IN THIS TIME of environmental awareness and increased sensitivity toward our dwindling animal species globally, I find your article on stalking bears in the Dec. 22 Extra section unbelievably appalling and the picture of the dogs drowning a bear disgusting!I think your paper has hit an all-time low in lack of sensitivity in running the article and especially the photo. With the technology available today, hunting has become nothing more than an electronic gauntlet from which there is no escape for the animals.
Isn't it time, with respect to the deteriorating condition of our environment and its original inhabitants, that we stop giving notice to and glorification of such senseless acts as "stalking bear"? DONALD TAYLOR ROCKY MOUNT
