GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL RECRUITING NEXT CLASS

The Southwest Virginia Governor's School for Mathematics, Science and Technology is recruiting students for the 1992-93 year.

Pat Duncan, the school's director, made a recruitment visit Monday to Floyd County, where nine students have indicated interest. Other visits are planned to other participating counties.

The school can take up to 96 juniors and seniors, but has only 61 students this year. Other participating localities are Pulaski, Wythe, Floyd, Giles, Bland, Carroll and Grayson counties and the city of Galax.

Montgomery County and Radford are eligible, but chose not to participate.

Duncan distributed copies of the information given to prospective students to the school's governing board Tuesday.

The school has four teachers: Duncan, Carolyn Linkous, Woodrow McKenzie and Jerian Abel.

Applications are available and further information can be obtained from high school guidance counselors or by calling 674-1980.

The regional magnet school also is providing a resource for other teachers by using its facilities for in-service training, particularly in computers.

"The school lends itself very well to doing in-service . . . our equipment, mainly," Duncan said.
