CAVE SPRING SUBDUES DANVILLE
Cave Spring had a big third quarter and made its free throws down the stretch in a 72-66 non-district boys' basketball victory over George Washington of Danville on Tuesday night.The Knights (4-3), who beat GW-Danville in a December meeting, opened a 15-point lead in the third quarter. Cave Spring had 11 steals in the quarter and outscored the Eagles 17-8.
GW-Danville (4-5) battled back to cut the lead to 64-63 with 1:45 remaining, but Jason Lavinder, Kerry Whitt and Chris Matheny each made two free throws in the final two minutes to help Cave Spring preserve the lead.
Whitt led the Knights with 19 points.
Antoine Crews led all scorers with 22 points for the Eagles.
