WALK; IT'S GOOD FOR YOU
THIS IS A good time of year to resolve to begin a walking program! It's the easiest and safest exercise, allowing you to raise your metabolic rate and burn more calories. And it doesn't cost anything. It takes a certain discipline to don a sweatsuit at 4:45 a.m. As I briskly cover my daily three miles or so, I pass shadows well-familiar to me. These walkers are known by their unique gaits, their walking partners and time of day. Since it is dark, we do not recognize faces and don't know each other's names, but we know each other's style.
We walk for a variety of reasons - weight loss, physical fitness, companionship, to combat depression, and weight maintenance.
Walking has enabled me to maintain a significant weight loss for a year. It has also allowed me to feel terrific and approach each day with an increased energy level - and to make a career change!
