OBIT CHILDRESS, L.

CHILDRESS, LEONARD H., SR.

Leonard Hayward Childress, Sr., age 74, formerly of Springwood, died Monday. He was preceded in death by a son, Wyndum "Buster" Childress. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Smith Childress; son, Leonard H. "Butch" Childress, Buchanan; daughter, Betty Jean Slone, Roanoke; four brothers, Nelson Childress, Troutville, Grover Childress, Rustburg; Lacy Childress, Cloverdale; Melvin Childress, Springwood, sister, Susan C. Basciano, Glen Burnie, MD; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. in Springwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold E. Cook, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home, Buchanan.
