U.S. COMBAT TOLL CUT BY 2, TO 146
The Pentagon reduced its list of U.S. military personnel killed in action in the Persian Gulf War to 146 after Army investigators concluded that the deaths of two soldiers were not due to combat, officials said Wednesday.Maj. Barbara Goodno, an Army spokeswoman, said the change was made Nov. 21 but not announced.
Goodno said Spec. Cindy Beaudoin, 19, and Maj. Mark Connelly, 34, were removed from the list of killed in action after investigators concluded that their deaths in separate munitions explosions "were not in a combat environment."
The two soldiers died in separate incidents in southern Iraq on Feb. 28, the final day of the ground war.
