UVA'S DIXON RECOVERING AFTER BACK SURGERY
Virginia offensive guard Mark Dixon, who was a starter in four football games in which the Cavaliers outscored the opposition 170-17, is recovering from his second back operation since August.UVa team physician Dr. Frank McCue said damage was not as extensive as the first operation, when Dixon had a ruptured disc. McCue said the surgeon remarked during surgery Tuesday that Dixon, a sophomore, should be able to play next season.
"We might take a little longer with the rehabilitation this time," McCue said. "I think they know what he can do."
In other developments, Virginia received an oral commitment from 6-foot-1, 175-pound Tim Sherman, quarterback for Albemarle High in Charlottesville. Sherman, son of UVa receivers coach Tom Sherman, passed for 1,188 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.
