BUILDERS ELECT STOSSER TO LEAD GROUP

Jeanne Stosser has been elected by members of the New River Valley Home Builders Association to head the group for 1992.

Stosser is owner of MCR Properties in Blacksburg, which developed the Chase apartments on Roanoke Street.

She replaces outgoing President Pat Cupp.

Members of the builders' group elected Scott Hill vice president. Hill is owner of Hill-Thomas Builders in Blacksburg, which builds single-family custom houses.

Stosser, in a message printed in the group's newsletter, the New River Nailer, said the housing industry has had a difficult two years.

"The horizon isn't much brighter," she said.

Among problems that builders must overcome in order to reinvigorate the industry are increasing unemployment in the New River Valley; cuts in education budgets, including at Virginia Tech; negative buyer confidence; new banking regulations; environmental regulations; and the threat of imposed impact fees.

Stosser said during her year as president her mission, along with the group's members, should be to "help people attain, maintain and fully enjoy the benefits of property and homeownership."
