JACKET LOOKED FAMILIAR TO THE POLICE
A report of a prowler at a Blacksburg apartment building early Thursday resulted in two arrests and the recovery of a stolen police jacket.Police investigated a prowler report in the 300 block of Webb Street about 1:30 a.m. Thursday and found two men using claw hammer to try to break into a ground-floor apartment.
Four women who lived in the apartment did not answer a knock at their front door, and then later heard noises at a rear window, police said.
Robert S. Collins, 20, and Christopher R. Goff, 21, both of the 300 block of Webb Street, were charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Police said they also charged Collins with possession of stolen property and unlawful wearing of a police officer's uniform.
A navy-blue jacket with police patches, a sewed-on badge and a name plate had been reported stolen Dec. 8, Capt. Bill Brown said.
The jacket was taken from a police car that was broken into while an officer answered a noise complaint in the same general area as Thursday's incident, Brown said.
A Feb. 12 hearing is scheduled in Blacksburg General District Court.
