NO LAYOFFS AS C&P CONSOLIDATES OFFICES
C&P Telephone has found a way to save money without layoffs. The company is closing its offices in Pulaski, Christiansburg and Pearisburg and sending all 20 employees from those locations to Radford, said Don Reid, C&P's New River Valley manager.
The centralization of facilities will be phased in over three years starting next month, Reid said. Pulaski's will be the first to close and the others will follow as their leases expire, he said.
"We have a state-of-the-art facility in Radford. . . . It's fairly new with enough space to accommodate" everyone, he said. Service will continue throughout the New River Valley.
Reid said that with the uncertain economy the company had to consider ways to reduce business expenditures without interfering with customers' telephone service or increasing rates.
"It's much more economical to maintain one building than four," he said.
