POLL: MANY THINK CANADA WILL JOIN U.S.

Is it possible that Canada could become just a northern region of the United States in the next 50 years? Nearly four Canadians in 10 think so.

A whopping 67 percent already believe the United States has too much influence on the Canadian way of life.

A Gallup poll published Thursday asked 1,006 Canadians if they thought Canada would become a part of the United States over the next half century, 37 percent said it would. A mere 52 percent said clearly it would not. Eleven percent had no opinion.

People in Ontario, Canada's richest, most populous province, seem the most convinced. Forty-one percent believe in the inevitablility of joining up with big brother to the south. - Associated Press
