300-POUND LINEMAN COMMITS TO VIRGINIA
Virginia, which has expressed a need for linemen, received a football commitment from 6-foot-7 1/2, 300-pound John Slocum from Cheshire, Conn.
Slocum, in only his second season on the varsity football team, was selected first-team all-state by three services. He picked the Cavaliers over Penn State, Syracuse and Boston College.
Slocum gave up football in favor of basketball after his freshman year but had a change of heart when he did not start in the latter sport. He also has participated in track and field and has a best of 54 feet in the shot put.
