FORMER CLERK TO RUN FOR COUNCIL
Renee Anderson, a former clerk in the Roanoke City Clerk's Office, will seek the Democratic Party nomination to run for City Council in the May 5 election.Anderson has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday to announce her plans to seek one of the three council seats up for election this spring.
She said Friday that her campaign will focus on education, economic development and the need for more jobs to stem the migration of young people looking for work elsewhere.
The seats up for election are held by David Bowers, Elizabeth Bowles and Beverly Fitzpatrick Jr.
Voters also will choose a mayor in May. Mayor Noel Taylor, the Republican incumbent, hasn't decided whether to seek a fifth term.
Bowers, a Democrat, is seeking his party's nomination for mayor and won't seek re-election to his council seat.
Bowles, a Republican, hasn't disclosed her plans. Fitzpatrick, a Democrat, is expected to seek another term if he doesn't run for mayor.
