COMPTON, McARTHUR ELLETT McArthur "Whitey" Compton, age 49, died Friday, January 10, 1992 at Radford Community Hospital. "Whitey" was born in Dickerson County on June 2, 1942, and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for R.A.A.P., with twenty-five years service. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Swanson Compton, and a brother, Carl Norman Compton, Sr. Surviving are his wife, Mary Payne Compton; a daughter, Lorie Ann Compton; a son, Allen Page Compton; his mother, Winnie Compton Creasey, all of Ellett; five sisters, Nelva Viers, Ellett; Dot Howery, Floyd; Cathy Mitchell, Fran Cumbee, and Pat Barnett, all of Blacksburg; two brothers, Don Compton, Ellett; Gordon Compton, Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, at North Fork Baptist Church. The Rev. Samuel C. McPhail will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
