COX, DR. JAMES A., SR.MARION - Dr. James Alfred Cox Sr., age 61, died Saturday, January 11, 1992, at his home in Marion. He attended Emory and Henry and V.P.I. and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia. He served ten years on the Smyth County Social Service Board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Marion Kiwanis Club, and the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association. He attended Marion Baptist Church. He was a pharmacist and partner at the Marion Drug Company. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberely Sue Cox. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Hawks Cox of Marion; his children, James A. Cox Jr. of Marion, Winifred Ann Cox of Bristol, Tennessee, Timothy Hawks Cox of Marion; one grandchild, Bobbie Cox of Marion; three brothers, Dr. David Breece Cox and wife, Frankie, of Wytheville, Virginia; Owen L. Cox Sr. and wife, Kitty, of Saltville, Virginia; William Frank Cox and wife, Nannie S., of Sugar Grove, Virginia; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Betty Cox) Shipp of Fairfax, Virginia; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hattie Hawks and Gale Deatherage of Marion; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Hawks of Shreveport, Louisiana; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Ron Clapper of GITMO, Cuba; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Marion Baptist Church with Dr. William A. Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Marion Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Marion Baptist Church Hand Bell Fund. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
